Plan For My DVD Sleeve

I took pictures of the stages that I went through will creating my paper design for what my DVD sleeve could look like.

In this first image, I have equally split the page into a front, spine and back just like other DVD sleeves that I have looked at. I added the title of the film to the spine, using the same font that I used on my film poster. Also I added BBFC age ratings and a company logo that I created myself. On DVD sleeves that I looked at, on the back pages there is usually images of certain parts in the film and special features which I will also add.

I looked at my film poster to see what things I can use on my DVD sleeve. Things that I copied was the title and the names at the top. I added a summary to the back page which I got of my proposal. These things are relevant as DVD sleeves that I looked at all had these things on them.

I used the same design for the front cover of my DVD sleeve as I did on my film poster. So I had everything in the same place such as the main image, tagline and the BBFC logo.










I looked at other DVD sleeves to give me ideas of what else to add to my DVD sleeve. On the Orphan DVD sleeve, it has a barcode, BBFC logo box, film censors office logo box and company logos. I also moved the credit bar to the back page because this is where I have seen it on other DVD sleeves and also added the running time.

This is my finished paper design which I will aim for my DVD sleeve to look like but it could change in the process.

DVD Sleeve Analysis

Plan For My Film Poster

In this blog, I have added pictures of the process of planning my film poster. I have shown in the 3 pictures how my film poster will look but parts of it may change. Also it shows the final film poster and how I imagine it will look when I am finished creating it on Photoshop with a few small changes.

In this picture I have taken, I have added the name of the film which will be in a horror style font and in capital letters. The actors names are at the top of the poster, these will be in bold letters, easy to read with the second name being in larger font than the first name. The company logo and the age restriction have also been shown in this.

 In this second stage, I have added the main image to my poster. This will be a girl with half of her face being in a shade to resemble the genre. I will had red eyes as well. I have also shown where the tagline will be when it has been thought of. I will have the facial expression to be serious and straight faced. The body language will be stood straight with her arms down by her side.




















In this last picture, I have added the credit bar which will be placed over my main image but I might add a gradient over it to make it more readable. The background of my poster will hopefully be a red/black coloured background with scratches in it to add to my genre type.

Throughout the process of actually creating my film poster on Photoshop, parts of this may change such as adding things that I haven't shown in my original plan.

Fonts Ideas For Film Poster

I searched for fonts on 'Da Font' to use for the main title which will be on my film poster.  I have found 5 different fonts which all like into my genre due to having blood dripping of the lettering or looking like someone has scratched through it. They are suitable for my film poster and DVD sleeve as they all very noticeable. As an audience from these certain fonts, the genre of the film will be easily guest because of certain aspects to them. From these 5 fonts, I will explore changing the colour to them to see what I feel looks better and then chose the font which will be the title of my film.

Film Poster Analysis

I analysed 4 horror/thriller film posters due to my film poster and DVD sleeve being based around the genre of horror/thriller. Through this I can then give me an idea of how I could create my poster and DVD sleeve to link in with the genre.

Proposal for Creative Media Production Project

Format and Medium: My film poster will be created on an A4 piece of paper but it will be high resolution so if it gets scaled up for a newspaper or billboard you will be able to see it better. I will also create a DVD sleeve, which will be 27” by 39”.

Sector: I will use my film poster in the film market on billboards, magazines and newspapers.  My DVD sleeve will be used on a film cover within shops.

Name of my film: The Killing will be the name of the film.

Genre: Horror/Thriller Genre.

Intended Audience: The audience for my film poster will be people who are into horror/thriller films. The age rating will be for 15.

Summary of the storyline:  The Killing, a story of a young family that makes a horrifying discovery that innocent daughter is not as innocent as they think. With their new home being an abandoned Victorian house and mysterious acts happening throughout the day, who will the family turn to?

Summary of style: The overall layout of the film poster will follow a stereotypical horror poster with the possessed girl standing at the front with the abandoned house behind her. This will give out a scary vibe due to the girl looking mentally ill. The DVD sleeve will follow the same idea as my film poster but with more information about the film such as a small summery of the film , producer/actors names and other snip its of information. The film poster will not have as much information on it due to people not having the time to stand and read every single bit of the information presented. I will used red, black, white and grey in my poster. I will make the eyes on the girl red to make it represent the genre. The body language of the girl will be stood up straight with her arms by her side. The facial expression will be serious and straight faced.

Legal and Ethical Considerations: In doing my film poster and DVD sleeve I will have to take into consideration about the BBFC age restrictions, defamation, copyright and ASA codes. I will be adding an age restriction of 15 to unsure no one younger than this age will be able to watch/buy my product. I will take defamation into consideration ensuring that if I use any pictures of people, I will not write anything bad about them. To not break any laws of copyright, all the stuff on my poster and DVD sleeve will be all produced by me with no logos or producers names of other films being used. My film poster and DVD sleeve will not be falsely advertised and will be legal to follow the ASA codes.

Skin Tutorial

This is the orginal imaged I used. As you can see she has oily skin, spots, pimples and freckles. I used Photoshop to do this.

After
I used the spot healing tool to get rid of her spots, pimples and freckles. I duplicated the layer and added a blur smart filter over her face. I then added a layer mask over this. Last I used a paint brush tool to un-blur certain features such as her eyes, hair and lips. It made it look fake and waxy. This shows how models in the media industries can be perfected through photoshop to hide things such as spots and freckles.




Using these tools, it shows how people in the media industry are falsely shown to look better than what they actually are.
